Khalid bin Walid, The Noble Commander

The Bravery of Khalid bin Walid

When Umar bin Khatab was appointed as “khalifah” to replace Abu Bakar Ash Shidiq, he dismissed Khalid bin Walid as the warlords and the position replaced by Abu Ubaidah Ibnu Jarrah. While Khalid was leading a fierce battle, he received a letter to discharge his authority as warlords. At that time Khalid was in the glory day, at the top of his carrier, and won the glories. After Khalid had finished read the letter about his dismissal, he continued the war as if nothing had happened. The bravery of Khalid at the war was not affected at all by the notification letter.

Here is the real HERO, the mujahid that fight just for Allah, consistent to do the job and completed his role as God’s creature. Khalid saved his letter until the war finish to make the Muslimin stayed focus with the war. After the war had finished, Khalid announced his dismissal and give the authority to Abu Ubaidah. By his character, he blessed with the honor as “Saiful al Maslul” which means “The drawn sword of Allah”

Khalid came back to Madinah to clarify the reason of his firing. Umar said “In fact, I fired Khalid not because of hatred and betrayal but just because I love the human soul”. Umar concerned if the people will cult Khalid. Umar worried about the popularity that will make some deadly trap because the top of achievement sometimes make arrogance and neglect. Umar got the clever side by different way of thinking. Umar saved Khalid from the dark side of popularity and “magic” of worldly pleasure.

Khalid feels relieved. Khalid said “I take the war not because of Umar but because of Allah”. Khalid was brave and obedient, patient and “istiqamah”. Khalid said “There are no problem between us, one of us is commander and the other just the regular army”. Lined up only as a regular army, his spirit to fight and defend the truth was still burning. Allah fated him “syahid” in his bed. Indeed he never lost and defeated.

Rasullulah is the eyewitness for the syuhada. He gave the happy news “Whoever ask to be syahid to Allah, Allah will make him as syuhada, even when he died in his bed”.

Then we wonder why Khalid died in his bed and not in the war. Allah gave the “izzah” to make Khalid did not lost and broke in war. To keep the integrity. Just Allah, the only One who can beat and defeat Khalid. This is one of Allah’s love to Khalid. Let see it with husnudzon thinking. Wallahu a’lam bish-shawab.
